4th Place

Sitting at the San Diego airport currently, enjoying some free wireless internet. We closed the tournament with a 3-1 loss to Belgium. It was a fantastic finale but we came up short. That seems to be quite the trend with this team. We started with 2-3 scoring chances right at the opening whistle but could not capitalize. Belgium went 1 up I think in the first half. We were able to tie it up 1-1 on a PC and from then the momentum was flying. As we were walking to our positions on the field after cheering for half-time, Zee (our goalie), dropped a few things on her way to the net and wasn't quite ready. Because the umpires were so concerned about starting on time for the TV broadcast they were starting the game before we were ready. It was hard because we were trying to collect all the things that Zee dropped and before we knew it they were in our half and scored in the 36th minute.

We did score a tying goal but the umpires didn't see the tip and we protested but they ignored us so play continued. It was heated. There should have been a video review because a 2-2 tie could have really changed the flow of the game. It was unfortunate. They were able to capitalize on 1 more opportunity and we missed a few more. Ultimately they won and it sucks that we came out where we were ranked. We wanted to take some points and gain a few spots in the rankings!!!

Well, after watching the final - which was awesome - we headed back to the hotel. We went to the mall to do some power shopping and then were meeting the parents at a restaurant called "the Fish market" along the water downtown. It was great. We had pre-ordered entrees and then Zee and I shared a platter of fresh raw oysters. They were great!

After that, those that were 21 or over headed out to this club I think called Belo. First of all it was sheer robbery because they wanted $25 cover. Only apparently Ludacris was there so whatever "once in a lifetime" so we did it. We saw Ludacris in the bar and he performed 3 songs over top of the music. Maybe not worth $25 or my $11 drink. Geeze. Met up with the staff after to go home and tried to carall all the tipsy teammates into the van to go home. it was quite the late night but no we are up and at'em to head home... :)
