Hi Everyone,
The wireless is still not up and running in our actual rooms but they have an international zone with internet access in the village so, I am not totally going mental. We are a bit tight on time so I'll keep it pretty brief and forgive the general update blast instead of individual e-mails. We arrived last night, which I think was Tuesday, and we had some great treatment right from the moment we stepped off the plane. Security has been tight and not a problem or concern at all. We were escorted from the plane to an athlete lounge area equipped with a cooler of Coca-Cola drinks (water, powerade, pop, etc.) and a mini-buffet of snacks. It was like royal treatment while we waited for the buses.
All of our luggage arrived safe and sound and we were transported on some great, air conditioned buses to the village. On our 45 minute drive we had special CWG lanes that we got to drive in, police cars following us front and back and our Canadian CWG people telling us all about what they have seen so far. Everything was good news and we were very tired but excited to embark on our first commonwealth games experience! On our way, we saw a huge elephant just walking down the side of the road with two people on it. THAT was cool!
We had our first practice today at one of the fields that wasn't in the stadium and the turf seems pretty good. It's a little bouncy but not too bad to get used to at all! It was over 39 degrees today, I'm sure. My head was over-heating and my body was still adjusting to the air and the heat! We had some ice baths ready for us after practice though so that was nice!
My favourite place so far (and I haven't ventured far yet) is the main dining hall. This place is huge and loaded with great food! They have it split into sections of pasta/pizza, western, sizzling salads, indian, vegetarian, asian flavours, etc. It's great that we aren't stuck with sandwiches and pasta our whole trip, although if you wanted that it is here too!! I am excited because these games are totally living up to what I had hoped they would be! India has been great so far and we saw some things as we drove to the field today.
All the volunteers and workers here have been helpful and their english has been fantastic. I am very impressed. There is still more exploring to do of the whole village but we some how have so much to do and so little time. Although, it has only be not even 24 hours. The time difference is a bit crazy so I don't know how my skype and phone calls will match up. We are 12.5 hours ahead!!
That's all I have for now from Delhi.
Namaste.
