We finally did it. We came out hard right from the whistle and poured on the pressure. We generated numerous forward attacks but were only able to generate one PC in the first half. It was a great team effort. Robyn Pendleton scored the first goal after some great midfield work and up front power by Steph Nesbitt. She beat one player and hit it far post to Robs who made a great reverse stick deflection. It was so uplifting!!! Soon after Steph J was able to capitalize on a straight hit on our first PC of the match.
Second half saw less pressure but nonetheless we were able to defend well. The French were beyond winey and were super physical, just pushing to try and get a goal. I think we defended 2 or 3 PCs in the second half but other than that it was a solid fight to the end. We won, that's all that matters! We stayed for a bit to watch the US beat Belgium (final score 3-0) which bodes well for us because Belgium was undefeated and we hadn't faced the Americans yet.
All in all, I am happy with my performance and the team's efforts today. It was a great win and tomorrow we rest and practice to gear up for Mexico on Wednesday, followed by the USA on Thursday.
