Delayed right from the get-go, we had a problem with Air Canada and the number of bags we could check. Traveling to the USA apparently is limited to one suit case, which they weigh, and clearly we each had 2 bags plus our travel gear. After we abused each of our elite and prestige level AC members, we doubled up our stick bags in large plastic bags and they only charged us for half of the extra bags.
After a bit of a bumpy flight we landed in San Diego and were greeted by a liaison. It was a lot smoother sailing to here then to South America. As expected, there were buses and the hotel is totally up to par. The internet situation is a little dodgy since they are somehow thinking it is sane to charge $10.00 for 24 hours. It’s totally a rip off when internet is clearly something that should be global, unlimited and free.
We tested out the facilities and the USA Olympic Training center. Apparently they train all sports there and they even have a man-made lake for the rowers to train at! The pitch is pretty nice. It’s like an older and thinner version of the turf we have at UVic but you can really feel the cement under it. Shin splints may be a bit of a problem again on this trip but needless to say, the pitch material is actually fantastic. The ball moves at great speeds and I am excited because I can sweep really well on this turf.
