There's watching team Canada win ice hockey at the Olympics and there's winning CIS with the Vikes but this, for some odd reason, is a whole different ball game. The pride that I had for being Canadian while being almost front row at the 2010 Opening Ceremonies was invigorating but the pride you have when you get to represent your country...it's inexplicable what kind of energy runs through you. After being an eager fan and patriot for 2.5 weeks, I am ready to be involved, take action and help create the change for our sport in Canada. This is going to be one heck of a journey.
It feels like we have been down here forever already but the fun is just about to start. That's the best way to think of it, I think. I mean, our jobs are to play field hockey and we are in it because we love it and despite what it may seem, we do have a lot of fun. I think we will play our best if we just relax, trust each other and have fun on the field. Good things happen and momentum will shift our way.
Don't think we don't have our plans though. We were in meetings all day and watched video footage of our opponents as well as ourselves. I feel prepared but at the same time you get way more information from being in the moment. It's an excellent opportunity to sieze the day (live in the now?) and move forward with this team. It's exciting and I think that's exactly how I want to be feeling right now.
Today we had a practice and a pool session. A pretty chill afternoon and evening that included a stop at "Better Buzz Coffee" and lots of video and meetings. Our other assistant coach arrived and brought us some sweet red t-shirts which are nice.
Well.... Game 1 tomorrow... Wearing our team Canada uniform once again... Can't wait! Look for updates online at the official WORLD CUP QUALIFIER WEBSITE.
